Goals
Deliver stylish, functional and valid projects.
Code semantically so that designs degrade gracefully.
Push the boundary of what is possible with pure XHTML & CSS design.
About?
My goal is to create stylish, functional websites that stick to the W3C standards for web publishing. I design with XHTML and CSS, which means you get a fast loading, modern site that is widely supported in different browsers.
I've been doing this for over 10 years now, and it's what I love. You can be sure that any project I take on will more than meet your needs and expectations.
Although I specialize in graphic design tied to XHTML/CSS, Javascript and PHP, I'm comfortable coding in a large range of languages. Let me know what you'd like and I'll do it for you.
Useability
During the last few years, my day job has been coding Java/JSP web applications for many end users, which has forced me to think about interface design. Design for the Internet is only limited by the designer's imagination, but what's the point of an incredible looking site if the user can't find the menu?
With each site I develop, a lot of thought goes into how it is organized and laid out. If someone is visiting a site I built, they won't get lost in it.
Design
In order to make sure you're happy with the final product, this is how I go about designing a new site:
- Talk with you to find out what your needs are. This helps me determine what technology is right for you and what style of site you would like.
- Get a list of URLs of sites you like. This way I can be sure your site will have the look you want.
- Design an initial mockup in Photoshop so that I can get your feedback early in the design process.
- Modify the mockup according to your comments & suggestions.
- Code the site's interface and put in skeleton content so you can see the site in action.
- Modify the interface if you have any concerns or change requests.
- Finalize the site's design.
- Ensure that you are comfortable modifying it (if designing a template) or enter in your content (if it's a complete design project).
Cost
Costing a project in web design is a fluid process. Each project is unique and so there is no hard and fast rule for how much to charge. That being said, here are some average costs (all prices in USD):
- Logo design: $75 to $150
- Coding site from provided design: $100 to $200
- Template re-design: $100 to $200
- Custom template: $200 to $300
- Site optimization: $250 to $300
- Complete design: $600 to $800
- Flash design: $800 to $1000
For database driven web sites, you will need to contact me since the level of work required for these is highly variable. I'm also open to bartering for my services, so if you have something you'd like to trade, let me know.
Why 2
So what's the deal with that 2 in the header anyway? Simple; this is version 2 of FullAhead. The last one got hastily put together when I won the hosting space in a design contest over at Open Web Design last winter.
Since then, life + work + design + summer has been keeping me too busy to rework it...until now. Hope you like the new look and feel.
